I am posing a question to everyone “Are You a
Doctor?”, The Answer May be Yes/No, there is no rule that everyone should be a doctor,
definitely not at all but the in-country like India which is still known for its well-acclaimed rituals and
traditions. Especially, there is an utmost priority and recognition for a doctor in society and this profession didn’t get significance because of its white-collar job but for their service
i.e.“Vaidya Seva” which can’t perform by everyone “Saving a life”. And their quote "Only a life lived for others is a life of worthwhile" much related to the present situation in the world.
Now, during this pandemic COVID-19 stigma we were informed about its effect of extremity which is unable to cure with available first aid medicines like Hydroxychloroquine but able to stay safe by following certain guidelines issued by the government of India. So during this outbreak, even many developed countries are at the edge to reduce its impact but they failed at some point of time that could be backed by many other reasons also. But, our country India is far better than many developed countries because of the enactment of many strategies which took place at the early stage itself along with the efforts of the frontline workers like Doctors & their staff, Police & their staff, Sanitation Workers and other government employees and officials.

Out of these many true Indian servants' sincere coordination, only people who are working knowingly working very close to COVID-19 positive patients. are Doctors and their related staff. But, at some places they got treated by certain inhuman people is still really shocking for me. The
doctors have been spat at and chased away from
homes, and that in one place patients directed abusive and vulgar language
towards female nurses. In addition to this, at some other places in India, doctors and medical workers are being ostracised from
communities, evicted from their homes, and forced to sleep in hospital bathrooms
and on floors over fears they may be carrying this pandemic virus. Many healthcare professionals told that this pandemic stigma made them face several problems like barricading from their own homes and even they
left homeless. Is this acceptable?.
I came across certain media reports, there I got to know that one nurse. aged 38 working at a Kolkatta hospital, shared how her landlady turned up at her door two days ago and gave her and two young children 24 hours to get out of the house. The next morning, her landlady returned with two men demanded the nurse leave immediately even after it was explained she was not treating any coronavirus patients and had no symptoms. Without paying the least concern to her, that elder lady claimed “There must be coronavirus patients around you in your hospital. We know that the virus floats in the air and infects everyone around. This is why thousands of people around the world have been infected. You have to leave the apartment.” After knowing this, what you could do instead of having thought about that incident you may even feel Ashamed, that’s what I felt..Here I didn’t get one simple logic, as this kind of people like that elder lady who had felt nervous due to this pandemic and forced them to leave home/apartments but why don’t they get an emotional thought that “These doctors and nurses are even more aware of coronavirus and its severe impact than the general public and but still they are working relentlessly for the welfare of families". Yes, these families are forming a healthy nation like India that’s what our Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi ji is keeping his full-fledged efforts since the beginning and every time coming up with a new way of encouraging the public who got quarantined in their homes with the help of strategic coordination.
If this is what happens with the doctors and related staff around the country, what would be confidence levels of those individuals and instead of paying gratitude towards them we even keeping them untouched in their daily life too? Recently, Arghyadeep Ganguly, a junior doctor at Beleghata Infectious Disease hospital in Kolkata, described how seven taxi drivers refused to pick him up when they realized he was a doctor working in a so-called ‘coronavirus hospital’.
In a tweet from Asian News International (ANI) “Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has written to Home Minister Amit Shah requesting appropriate action against the eviction of healthcare professionals from their homes and provision of transport facility. #Lockdown #COVID2019”

AIIMS placed an emergency pleading request to the government, mentioning “Many doctors are stranded on the roads with all their luggage, nowhere to go, across the country”. In both Delhi and West Bengal, the government has now ordered action against anyone threatening to evict health care workers. A country like India is trying to bring as many as strategies to combat this pandemic stigma but we are with those inhuman people who are making the country to think about something else i.e. to bring an ordinance to regulate stringent measures against such attacks over frontline workers.
Pertaining to our population density, in order to combat COVID-19 even we have been ordered to continue lockdown i.e. world’s largest lockdown ever, and we are following it as a citizen’s responsibility which is a highly appreciable thing. But when a video, which has gone viral, showed a mob throwing stones at two female doctors wearing personal protective equipment in the central city of Indore.
And in another incident, the doctors had gone to a densely-populated area to check on a woman suspected of having COVID-19 when they came under attack. When I heard this news, it was a thought of “What kind of Inhumanity is this”…I think no valid answer for this, seriously no answer for this in mind except a legal punishment in a brutal manner and that would teach a lesson to such non-Indians ..Yes ..I think they are not Indians at all because Indians are already collectively fighting for people of their mother India and praying for quick recovery of the nation. Then Whose hell is these..?
On April 22nd, 2020, the Indian government bought such ordinance and its states that:
The offence will attract a maximum punishment of seven years’ imprisonment and Rs 5 lakh fine. The move follows reports of an attack on doctors and other health workers in different parts of the country and demand from the community for a law to protect them. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the ordinance. Asserting that the government has “zero tolerance” for violence and harassment against doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare personnel, Cabinet spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said a person can be sentenced to anywhere between three months and five years in jail, besides a fine between Rs 50,000 and two lakh, for such crimes under the new provision. In cases where injuries are serious, the punishment will range from six months to seven years, and carry fine between Rs 1-5 lakh, the minister told reporters.
The ordinance will amend the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, and the amended law will also be invoked if healthcare personnel face harassment from their landlords or neighbors over suspicion that they may carry the coronavirus infection due to the nature of their work, he said. The home ministry also directed states to appoint nodal officers to redress any safety issue on the functioning of medical professionals and take action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Home minister Amit Shah allayed concerns among the medical fraternity and assured them that the government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring their wellbeing and security. Hours later, the Union Cabinet cleared the ordinance.
A sincere thank you to Home Minister Amit Shah ji. The preventive measures and appointment of nodal officers should be widely publicized among the medical fraternity, including the local chapters of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), to ensure that there are no incidents.
So, during this outbreak, they got engaged in doing their responsibilities along with challenging the death prone surroundings but they need a concern, encouragement and a feeling of gratitude for their work. So, as Indian Citizen, please do care for any such doctors and their related staff if they are in need of any help and think that you are doing this for nation INDIA.
